I keep getting error messages like the one below when checking mail:
<< A TCP/IP error occurred while trying to connect to the server. Account: 'lester-trad_orange', Server: 'pop.orange.fr', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC15 >>
This has started happening since I started using AntispamSniper. Does anyone have any suggestions? TIA
Windows 2000 Pro SP4

| Make sure that the firewall doesn't block the incoming TCP connections to port 40000 for the process msimn.exe (Outlook Express). This is the port of internal mail proxy in plug-in. If you can't reconfigure the firewall, it is possible to resolve the problem by disabling the checkbox "Block spam by message headers..." on Accounts tab in plug-in settings. |

Thanks. My firewall is part of Kaspersky Internet Security 2009, and I can't find where to make the change you suggest. They mention a "Connections and Ports" tab in the help file, but they don't tell you where to find it.
Meanwhile, the problem continues.
If I disable checking mail by headers, will the spam be sent to the e-mail client? I can't have that happen because I'm being flooded with spam.
Thanks again _________________ yet another chill armadillo |

I was able (I think) to set port 40000 and I am still getting the errors. I tired disabling the check headers setting and all the spam flooded into my Inbox.
Do you have any further suggestions? _________________ yet another chill armadillo |

Filtering spam by headers is an optional feature that allows blocking 100% spam on the server, without downloading the full message contents. When it is turned off, the plug-in filters only downloaded mail by full content and doesn't filter IMAP accounts. |

Try to turn off the firewall in Kaspersky. If the problem disappears, it makes sense to contact Kaspersky labs support and ask them how to create a rule for allowing the incoming TCP connections to port 40000 for msimn.exe. |

Thanks. Kaspersky does seem to be the problem. I will TRY to get them to answer the question. I wish they had responsive support the way you do.
Maybe I should mention that I tried Sniper because Kaspersky's e-mail module offered no way to kill spam at the server (except manually). But with Kaspersky's e-mail module in place, Sniper wouldn't install.
Thanks again. I will report if I get any help from Kaspersky. _________________ yet another chill armadillo |

I was able to get rid of the TCP/IP errors by disabling the Monitor All Ports setting and enabling Monitor Only Selected Ports. I am still trying to get an answer from Kaspersky as to how to open ONLY port 40000, since I really don't know if there are any ports that have been left open that should be closed.
In any case, I am continuing my trial of ASS, and I must say the flood of spam has been reduced to a trickle, albeit with a few false positives.
Thanks! _________________ yet another chill armadillo |
