|
|
I am using an professional evaluation version of the newest ASS, my problem has been the same for quite sometime.
With POP3, ASS works fine. With IMAP, as I understand, the process is different, ASS needs to be notified by TheBat! that a mail check will be taking place, block that one and first check it itself, using own connection.
As it seems in my configuration, ASS doesn't notice that there are IMAP accounts, nor that new ones have been added, nor, when I set up the IMAP servers in ASS myself, that TheBat! is checking mail. So effectively, ASS doesn't do anything on an IMAP account.
Is there a known issue about this, or anythin I may be having misconfigured? I am definitely having one connection with encryption at all, so that shouldn't be the problem.
Thanks for any tips and hints |

Yes, that's almost right. The plug-in uses an existing IMAP connection to check the messages. It blocks downloading of new messages by email client and uses the same connection to filter the new messages in selected IMAP folder. That is why the plug-in doesn't filter the encrypted IMAP connections ? it cannot use this type of connections for filtering messages.

Please check the following:
- The mail server name and the user name in plug-in's account settings (Transport tab) must be the same as in IMAP account settings in TheBat.
- On IMAP tab of account settings check that port value is set to the port used by your IMAP server. It is 143 by default, but may be different in your case.
- Check the filtering mode on IMAP tab. It must be "Filter messages by headers, then by content" to filter messages with the best quality.
- Check the filtering mode on POP3 tab. It MUST NOT be "Do not filter the messages received from this server". This option disables filtering for all POP3 and IMAP accounts of the specified server.
If everything is configured properly, check the Filtering Log to make sure that the plug-in actually filters the IMAP messages. The plug-in adds log items for all POP3 and IMAP messages it ever seen. |

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately my problem still persists. I?ve installed a fresh version of ASS, to all new directories. Set it up in TheBat! according to these directions

but to no avail. I think your last sentence is the point of my problem. The plug-in doesn't seem to notice no events of TheBat! - it doesn't see newly checked accounts to add them into the account list (the IMAP account in question has unencrypted transport) nor does it notice the checking operation even if I add that account manually. I know that it *can* work, seen it on my other computer where I've tried it. Just not here. Can there be any problem that prevents the plug-in to hook in at the right places of TheBat!? Is there anything how I could track the problem a little closer?
Thanks a lot, cheers,
Viktor. |

Most probably you have a kind of other network filtering software installed in system that doesn't allow the plug-in to hook the system calls. It can be a popup blocker, antivirus, firewall, other spam filter, network bandwidth limiter etc. Try to turn off some of these programs to find an exact reason of this conflict.
BTW, even if the plug-in is unable to check the message headers automatically, you can start this procedure manually using the toolbar button "Delete spam". The list of accounts in plug-in must be also filled up manually in this case. |
