Has anyone else had this problem:
I'm not sure whether to blame the OS or TheBat! or AVG Pro.
Unfortunately I installed both v4.0.18 of TheBat! and the paid version of AVG Anti-Virus on the same day. So it's hard to point a finger.
What happened was TheBat! had been running smoothly with sniper v2.7.1.7 since the first week in Feb. I had upgraded from TheBat! v3.99 to v4.0.x with no problems just prior to this AND have installed all of the interim versions since with no problems.
A couple of days ago I started TheBat! in the morning and everything seemed to be just fine. The Spam was sent to the Junk folder as expected. Throughout the day things seemed to work perfectly even though I started and stopped TheBat! several times. That evening I started TheBat! but none of the junk was filtered to the Junk folder. So I went to the Options/Preferences/Anti-Spam and the "Status" was "Error".
I deleted the sniper from the list then tried adding it again and got a message that the .tbp file was not compatible with TheBat!. Next I tried reinstalling the sniper but got an error message during the install that indicated the resources.bin file was in use or not available.
Finally I rebooted the system and deleted the resource.bin file then reinstalled sniper and everything seemed to be OK. Except today, 2 days later, I had the same problem and fixed it the same way.
If anyone knows what the cause is or can point me in the right direction to get this resolved ... please chime in. |

I suppose that it makes sense to check the logs of AVG and search for the reason of blocking the file Resources.bin. This file contains the resources (strings, images etc.), but internally it is a generic dll (executable). Therefore this file can be a subject for deep checking by antivirus. It looks like the file was locked by AVG, the plug-in was unable to initialize and thereby reported the bad status to TheBat.
Most antiviruses have a whitelist of trusted applications. I think that the problem can be solved by adding there the plug-in executables (AntispamSniper.tbp and Resources.bin). |
